Advice and tips on buying and selling between private individuals

How can you spot a fake New Era 59 Fifty cap?

This headwear with the initials "NY" has become one of the best-known and best-selling caps in the world. Today, the 59 Fifty has become more than just a headgear, it's a living myth, a standard whose quality remains unrivalled. Available in a multitude of colours, this cap is worn by the world's greatest icons. However, the success of this cap has not deterred counterfeiters, who have been quick to replicate this iconic model. If you want to buy your New Era cap second-hand or off the shelf, you need to make sure it's authentic. That's why in this article, we've provided you with a real guide to certifying the authenticity of your cap.

Inner bands :

First of all, please pay attention to the stripes on the inside of your New Era 59 Fifty cap. They tell you a lot about the cap's authenticity. All caps have an inner seam, also known as 'taping'.

Check that it is present. It is not uncommon to find these strips missing from counterfeit products.

Now look specifically at the markings on the inside strips. The lettering should be very clear. On replica caps, they are often blurred or give the impression of being smudged.

The sizing sticker :

Now let's look at the sizing sticker on your cap, more specifically on the front of the cap. This sticker is located above or below the visor of the cap, depending on the model.

On the 59 Fifty model, the sticker is circular and metallic gold. New Era caps from replica factories generally have this metallic sticker, but it is silver and does not stick to the surface of the visor.

If you don't see a sticker on your cap, you can directly attest to its non-authenticity.

The brand logo :

You should also pay particular attention to the brand logo on the side of the cap. This must be embroidered on the left-hand side of the cap. If this is the case, you are looking at counterfeit headwear.

The logo represents the flag in which the company was founded: the United States. The logo must be completely clear. It is not uncommon to see threads coming out of the embroidery on replica caps.

Inside label :

Also look for the brand label on the inside of the 59 Fifty cap. On the 59 Fifty, you should find at least two labels: the one with the New Era logo and care instructions and the one with the size.

If you are missing one of these labels, you are most likely dealing with a counterfeit. The labels must be sewn neatly and cleanly to the inside of the cap. The seams should be strong, tight and even. This is not the case on replicas where the seams are irregular and too thin.
