Rayban sunglasses: 5 tips to avoid counterfeits

Ray-Ban sunglasses are one of the most popular and iconic accessories in the fashion world. However, their popularity has also led to a rise in counterfeits, making it difficult to differentiate between genuine and fake sunglasses. Ray-Ban sunglasses are often imitated, but their build quality, design and optical performance cannot be matched. In this article, we will give you some tips and advice on how to spot a counterfeit pair of Ray Ban sunglasses to help you avoid the scams and choose a top quality pair of authentic sunglasses.

1. The logo

First, pay attention to the details of the logo:

  • It is always located in the top right-hand corner of the right-hand glass.
  • It follows the edge of the telescope
  • It must be engraved on the glass and not a simple sticker. Scratch the logo; if it fades, you're looking at an imitation.
  • It is positioned close to the edge, so check the distance between them.
  • There is an RB engraving on the left glass, which is not always present on a fake model.
  • The Rayban logo also appears on the outside of both temples.

This is a counterfeit of the Rayban brand: the logo is easily erased. The 'RB' is sometimes present, as in the photo, but it is not engraved in the glass.

2. Inside the branches

Looking inside the temples is essential. It's an excellent way of checking the authenticity of your glasses.

Left branch :

You must find on it a long number made up of numbers and letters always beginning with RB.

These figures include :

  • The colour code
  • The size
  • The lens index
  • The category

If you can, take the time to check the model number on the official Rayban website.

Right branch :

On this label, you will first find the place where your glasses are manufactured "made in ...". In addition, the logo will appear once again, along with the CE mark, which corresponds to European technical harmonisation legislation.

The hinges connecting the glass to the arm are always made of metal, not plastic.

3. The price

Beware of overly tempting offers: Ray ban is known for the quality of its products. If the offer seems too good, don't dream! Brand-name glasses are rarely cheap. However, an expensive product is not necessarily a guarantee of authenticity.

4. The case

If your second-hand pair comes with a case, it will be in black or brown leather. Rayban only offers these two types of case.

In addition, the logo must appear on the right-hand side of the case and on the closing button.

5. Packaging

If you buy your pair of Raybans as new and delivered in their original packaging, you can recognise a counterfeit at this stage.

Its original packaging is composed as follows:

  • A packaging box on which the name of the manufacturer (Luxottica), the model, the colour code and the size of the glasses are mentioned.
  • A maintenance kit (cloth)
  • A brochure
  • A glasses case as described in the previous point
  • Your glasses

The Rayban logo is evident in every element.
