Luxury handbags: how can you spot a counterfeit?

Before you splurge on a luxury handbag, it's important to go through a little checklist so that you know fairly quickly whether you're dealing with a genuine product or a copy. Given the prices of this type of item, it's vital to make sure you're not being fooled.

The little details

A luxury handbag is first and foremost an object that has been made with great care, by hand, and in which every detail has been studied and is therefore perfect. If the bag has irregular seams, protruding threads, or if the leather around the buckles of the handles is roughly laid, you are most likely looking at a counterfeit product. The same goes for the zip: if its colour has faded, or if you can see a crumbling coating on it, this is also highly suspect.

The devil is in the detail, remember!

The materials used

Luxury means luxury, and that means high-quality materials! If the leather is coarse or too thick (so that it doesn't immediately regain its original shape), if the colours are faded, if the patterns are not the same colour, then the bag is probably not an original.

The brand logo

Counterfeit logos are often badly reproduced. Feel free to compare with a photo of the wording on an original bag.

The serial number

The serial number on a luxury handbag cannot be removed or damaged due to its layout and the way it is affixed. If the bag in front of you has its serial number damaged, or on a simple removable label, it's probably a fake!

The world of the brand

The large bags are part of a coherent universe that the designers take the time to create. To check whether the bag you have in your possession or the one you want to buy is an original, don't hesitate to visit the shop to look at the other pieces from the brand.

And of course, given the price of the coin, whether you want to buy or sell it, use Obvy to secure and trace the transaction!
