Advice and tips on buying and selling between private individuals

How can you spot a fake Chloe "faye" bag?

Stella McCartney's pineapple T-shirt, the violin dress or the embrun dress... here are just a few of the cult outfits from the great French brand Chloé. Chloé was founded in Paris in 1952, and over the years has become one of the world's leading luxury brands. Among its iconic pieces is the Faye shoulder bag, which has been a huge success since its release in 2015. Since it is out of stock everywhere, it is only available on unofficial websites or second-hand resale platforms. However, you need to be careful, as many counterfeiters offer this model at a high price, making you believe that it's an authentic bag when in fact it's not. That's why, in this article, we give you our tips on how to spot a real Faye de Chloé bag from a fake one.

The metal ring :

First of all, pay attention to the metal ring on the front of your Faye de Chloé bag. It tells you a lot about the bag's authenticity.

On counterfeit bags, this circle is shinier than it should be. These bags are usually too shiny because the crooks colour the buckle in rose gold. A genuine Chloé ring is matt and has no scratches, or more generally, no flaws.

Seams :

Also check the seams of your luxury bag carefully. Seams are always an effective way of detecting a counterfeit, because replica factories don't apply the same level of care as a real sewing workshop.

On a replica Faye bag, the side seams of the bag are too thin. In addition, the T seam on the side of the bag needs to be double stitched. Fake bags generally have a single layer of stitching, making them look too thin.

Chloé seams are thick and tight. These characteristics are essential if the bag is to stand the test of time. This is not the case with replicas, where the stitching threads used are extremely thin, making the bag much less resistant.

The inside inscription "Chloé":

It is also important to examine the brand inscription inside the Faye bag. This wording is poorly positioned on a replica. It is not uncommon to find that the lettering is not perfectly horizontal, as it should be. To check, take a ruler and see if the 'Chloe' is straight.

This inscription is also at the wrong distance from the seam line just below it. It is generally too high than a genuine bag.

The metal chain :

Also look at the metal chain on the Chloé bag. The original Chloé chain is made from an expensive metal, unlike what counterfeiters use.

Fake metal is much shinier than real metal. Counterfeits shine brighter than genuine Chloé chains, which are less shiny.

The inner lining :

The final point to pay attention to is the inner lining. You need to look at this point because it differs between a real and a fake Faye de Chloé bag.

Bags from replica factories have a smooth inner lining, whereas an original bag is more creased and not as neatly arranged as a fake bag. This crumpled effect is deliberate on the part of the luxury brand and adds to the charm of the bag.
