Salvatore Ferragamo belt: how can you spot a fake?

The stiletto, the red and the ballerina... many are the symbols of the house of Ferragamo. Salvatore Ferragamo had a passion for shoes from an early age. His quest for perfection, combined with Italian craftsmanship, made him an icon of the fashion and luxury industries. The historic values of this great man - attention to detail, elegance and functionality - are particularly reflected in his collection of belts. However, the success of these belts has not deterred counterfeiters, who have been quick to replicate the brand's iconic fashion accessory. However, there are a few tips on how to spot a genuine Salvatore Ferragamo belt from a fake.

The Gancini loop :

First of all, analyse the Gancini buckle on the front of the luxury belt. It tells you a lot about the authenticity of this Ferragamo accessory.

On authentic belts from the brand, the buckle is smooth and reflective. This is not the case on replicas, where the buckle is much more matt.

Also look for the brand inscription on the front of the buckle. Replica factories generally forget to dye this engraving black. If you can see on the belt that the brand inscription is the same colour as the metal of the buckle, you are most likely looking at a replica belt.

The :

Also pay particular attention to the brand inscription on the back of the belt buckle. For some reason, replica factories never manage to copy fonts correctly. This fashion accessory is no exception.

On an authentic model, the letters are small and square, unlike replica models where they are large and elongated. The font on a fake belt is also larger.

The back of the belt :

Let's move on to checking the back of the Salvatore Ferragamo belt and, more specifically, the brand inscription in the leather. You should be able to see various pieces of information on this inscription: the brand name, the place of manufacture and the serial number. If any of this information is missing, you can directly attest to its non-authenticity.

Check that the place of manufacture is Italy. It's not uncommon to see counterfeit products marked "Made in France" or "Made in China".

The font is also the wrong one. On some fake Ferragamo models, the words 'Made in Italy' are large, square and striped instead of being engraved in the leather.

Seams :

Last but not least, you need to check the seams on the Ferragamo belt. The brand pays particular attention to the details of its fashion pieces, especially the seams.

The seams should be even, tight and thick. These characteristics help the belt to stand up to the test of time. If you see loose threads or irregular seams, you're probably looking at a counterfeit belt.
