Advice and tips on buying and selling between private individuals

How can you identify a fake Louis Vuitton jumper?

Since its creation in 1854, Louis Vuitton, the brand with the most famous monogram, has continued to offer pieces that are each more unique than the last. Louis Vuitton created the brand of the same name when he realised that the market lacked high-quality luggage for travellers. He opened a boutique in Paris, near Place Vendôme, and marketed the flat trunk. It was a huge success, thanks to its practicality, and helped the brand become as well known as it is today. The brand also offers a range of clothing, including jumpers. These jumpers are generally made from high-quality materials, such as cotton or wool, and feature the famous Louis Vuitton monogram, which has become one of the brand's most recognised symbols. However, this reputation has attracted counterfeiters who have been quick to create replicas of the brand's products. In this article, we give you our tips for identifying and avoiding counterfeit Louis Vuitton jumpers.

Collar label :

First of all, you should pay particular attention to the Louis Vuitton label on the collar of your jumper. Take a closer look at the font of the luxury brand's inscription on this label.

Replica factories almost never manage to reproduce the brands' fonts perfectly. The letters on a genuine sweatshirt are thin and narrow, whereas the letters on a counterfeit are much thicker.

Also look at the colour of the 'Louis Vuitton' inscription, which differs between a real label and a fake. The inscription should be yellow, but it's much more orange on replica LV jumpers.

The material of the original label is also smooth and grain-free, which is not the case with jumpers from replica factories.

Jumper fabric :

As you might expect, the luxury fashion house Louis Vuitton uses very high quality fabric to make its jumpers. This is not the case with the replica factories, which, in the interests of profit, use low-end, poor-quality fabric.

This lack of quality is visible on the jumper. Whereas a real Louis Vuitton jumper will be soft and thick, a replica jumper will be made from a much flatter, thinner fabric that is less pleasant to the touch.

Size label :

Now let's look at the size label. This little label is on the inside of the jumper. Start by looking at the stitching on this label. This is a good indicator of authenticity.

The Louis Vuitton stitching on this label is symmetrical and the stitches are solid and regular. This is not the case on replica garments where the seams of this label are irregular and on a single line. You will get the impression that the label can come off at any time.

The LV :

Last but not least is the LV monogram on the jumper. The brand attaches particular importance to this detail, as it is emblematic of the luxury house.

The printing of this monogram on counterfeits is asymmetrical and the symbols are too large and thick. The original LV print is detailed and much sharper.
