Advice and tips on buying and selling between private individuals

How can you spot a fake Off-White jumper?

Off-White was created in 2013 by Virgil Abloh and has been a benchmark for streetwear and luxury ever since. Virgil Abloh's brand also owes its notoriety to influencers such as Kanye West, who was the first to become a genuine Off-White ambassador. Since its launch, the brand has also collaborated with a number of world-famous brands, including Nike, Levi's, Ikea and Jimmy Choo. Off-White is influenced by urban style, while at the same time offering cutting-edge cuts. One of the most iconic pieces is the brand's hugely successful jumper. Unfortunately, this reputation has not escaped the attention of counterfeiters, who have been quick to create replicas of this garment. But there are a few tricks you can use to spot a genuine Off-White jumper from a fake.

Neck label :

The first thing to pay attention to is the neck label. This is a good clue to the authenticity of your garment.

Take a closer look at the seams on this label. The luxury brand is known for its excellent quality control, so the seams must be perfect, i.e. clean and neat. Replica factories don't have the same know-how as a luxury brand and neglect the attention given to the garments. The seams on a counterfeit collar label are much wider, and differ from one another in size and shape.

Also check the material used for the label. The material used by the luxury brand is solid and robust. It is also dense and non-transparent. Counterfeiters, on the other hand, use an inexpensive, much thinner material to make a profit.

Back print :

Off-White owes its success to its unique designs. Its high-quality jumpers often feature flocking on the back. These prints are representative of the importance the brand places on the quality of its products. So pay particular attention to this print.

The print quality differs enormously between a replica and a genuine jumper. On a real jumper, the details are extremely sharp. The print on a counterfeit is not sharp and peels off quickly because the printers used are much cheaper.

If you look at the print very closely, you should be able to see the fabric of the sweater through the print.

The cardboard label :

If you buy your Off-White jumper outside an official shop, check the cardboard label attached to the jumper carefully. The genuine Off White label has a soft green colour, whereas counterfeit labels tend to be white or a brighter green.

Also analyse the material used to create the label. Replica factories use far too light a material. You can test the label. Take the label and fold it. If it bends very easily, you are most likely dealing with a counterfeit. If you feel that you have to apply strong pressure to the label to fold it completely, you can be reassured about the authenticity of your product.

The semi-transparent label must have 10 lines, which is a simple way of checking whether your sweater is the real thing. On counterfeits, you will generally find only 9 lines.

The washing label :

The last point you need to analyse concerns the washing label. This label is often overlooked by counterfeiters because it is not very visible, which makes it very interesting to observe.

Look carefully at the wiring on the label. It should be thick and even. This is not usually the case on replicas with much finer wiring.

Pay attention to the logo too. The main differences here are in the stripes. On a real Off-White garment, the shading of the stripes is richer and darker, due to the high quality of the printing. The white stripes should also be slightly thicker.
