Hermès Evelyne Bag: How to Spot a Fake?

First launched in 1978, the Evelyne bag by Hermès has become a staple of the luxury house. The bag is renowned for its exceptional craftsmanship and elegance. Available in a range of colours, it can be adapted to suit any style. However, you need to be careful, as Hermès is one of the most imitated brands. Every day, counterfeiters rush to replicate the luxury brand's iconic models. The Evelyne bag is no exception. If you want to buy your Hermès bag second-hand or outside an official shop, here are a few tips to help you find out whether it's a genuine bag or a counterfeit.

Leather :

First of all, you need to pay attention to the leather used to create your Hermès Evelyne bag. The luxury house uses calf leather, Epsom leather or Clemence leather. Clemence leather is the most commonly used by the French luxury brand, and is renowned for its quality. It is both thick and grained, making it particularly pleasant to the touch.

Whatever leather is used on your bag, the inside should always be leather in its raw form. It also often has a uniform shade and a deep colour. Counterfeiters use leather that has colour variations, or the colour is dull and pale due to the poor quality of the leather.

Front of the bag :

Also check the front of the Evelyne bag, especially the perforated "H" logo. It says a lot about the authenticity of the bag. It's also the brand's emblem, so this detail is meticulously crafted by Hermès.

The perforated "H" always has 63 holes: 40 for the oval, 9 for each arm of the "H" and 5 in the middle of the "H". Make sure that the numbers are correct. If not, you can immediately confirm that the Evelyne bag is not genuine.

Also look at the spaces between the dots, they should all be equal. This is not the case with bags from replica factories, where the spaces are not always the same. The holes in fake bags are also larger than they should be.

The :

Let's move on to the brand inscription, which is also found on the front of the Hermès bag and on the leather strap. The lettering consists of the word 'Hermès' in capital letters, followed by 'Paris' and 'Made in France', also in capital letters.

The letters of this inscription on an authentic Evelyne bag are large, regular and, above all, clearly visible. Replica factories are unable to reproduce the luxury brand's font perfectly. The letters of the counterfeit inscription are irregular and not all the same size.

Seams :

All Hermès bags are hand-sewn in the company's own sewing workshops. Replica factories are no match for the expertise of the Hermès seamstresses. Hermès seams are very precise, and the seamstresses use a delicate two-needle technique that is difficult to learn and impossible to imitate.

The seams of replica bags factories are irregular and sometimes out of line. The seams are sloppy, uneven and have loose threads. In-house seams are thick, allowing the bag to stand the test of time.
