Advice and tips on buying and selling between private individuals

How can you identify a fake pair of Gucci loafers?

Gucci loafers are often considered a status symbol and a symbol of style. These chic shoes are worn by many celebrities and influential people around the world. They are usually made from high-quality leather and have the brand's signature double G in metal on the top of the shoe. Gucci loafers are highly coveted luxury footwear, but unfortunately there are many fake Gucci loafers on the market. Counterfeiters are quick to put counterfeit shoes on sale every day, making you believe that the shoes are genuine. So it's important to know how to spot fakes to avoid buying a costly counterfeit. In this article, we give you our tips on how to do just that.

The heel :

First of all, pay particular attention to the heel of your pair of loafers. Gucci loafers are known for their comfort, largely due to their folding heel. This heel also allows the shoe to be worn as a regular moccasin or as a slipper.

This flexibility is made possible by the line of stitching that runs from heel to toe. This line is not present on a replica of this pair of shoes.

The stitching on this line on a counterfeit is poorly done, which will not make the pair of shoes last over time.

The insole :

Also check the insole of your pair of moccasins carefully, and in particular the brand inscription and the small details engraved on the side of the shoe.

Counterfeiters do not etch these small details deeply enough into the sole. Nor are they defined enough. You should also be able to see the wording 'Gucci' followed by 'Made in Italy' on the sole.

On counterfeit moccasins, these markings are not as deeply engraved as they should be. Also look at the spaces between each letter of the inscription. If you see spaces that are irregular, doubt the authenticity of the pair in front of you.

The front of the moccasin :

Now let's check the front of your Gucci loafer and, more specifically, the seams in this area.

Gucci's stitching is tight and regular. These characteristics enable the shoe to stand the test of time. Moccasins from replica factories do not have this type of stitching. In fact, on imitations, the seams are irregular. Threads may even protrude, giving you a direct indication of the lack of rigour in the construction of the pair.

Leather :

The final point that will tell you whether a pair of Gucci loafers is genuine or fake is the leather used. Gucci uses high-quality leather, unlike counterfeiters who, for the sake of profit, use cheap leather.

The difference in quality between these two leathers is clearly visible on the pair of moccasins. High-quality leather is grained, which makes it durable, unlike cheap leather, which looks much smoother.

If you have your pair in your hands, smell them. Poorly made leather has a strong petrochemical smell, whereas good leather has a light, pleasant smell.
