Adidas Superstar: recognising counterfeits

The Superstar is a trainer designed in 1969 by the famous brand with three stripes, Adidas. It's a must-have sneaker. More than 50 years after its launch, it remains popular with trainer fans of all ages. To keep it in the spotlight, Adidas is stepping up its collaborations with one of its flagship products.

Here are 5 tips for recognising counterfeit Adidas Superstar.

1. The packaging box

Look carefully at the label on the side of this packaging box. On some counterfeit Adidas Superstar shoes, you may find none.

Next, check the products inside the box. When you buy a new pair of Adidas Superstar, you should find a logo sheet and a manual inside the original box.

Finally, make sure you find the label on your new pair of Superstars.

2. The logo

Once you've completed the first step, take a good look at the logo on your new or second-hand Adidas Superstar. The logo should not be painted or simply written on the shoes. Also, on most imitation Adidas Superstar shoes, the text and logo are reproduced at the wrong thickness.

3. SUPERSTAR" text

One of the best ways to spot whether or not your pair of Adidas Superstar is counterfeit is to check the "SUPERSTAR" text on the side, above the three stripes. This is often overlooked by counterfeiters. In fact, on genuine Superstars, this text is reproduced slightly thicker, and is closer to the 3 stripes than on copies of Superstars.

4. The badge

Also take a close look at the badge on the outside of the tongue of your pair of Superstars. Fake Superstars have the text at the wrong thickness. Also, you may notice a difference in the way the text is written. On fake Superstars, the text only appears to be written, whereas on genuine Superstars it appears to be written deeper into the tongue.

5. Laces

There's also a noticeable difference in the thickness of the laces. On authentic Superstars, the laces are quite thick, whereas on replica Adidas Superstars they are quite thin.
