Advice and tips on buying and selling between private individuals

How can I check the authenticity of a Hublot watch?

Hublot is a Haute Horlogerie company founded in Switzerland in 1980. It was acquired in 2008 by the world leader in luxury goods, LVMH. Hublot is known for pioneering the use of rubber in its bracelets and design. They know how to combine materials, mechanisms and techniques like no one else. All these reasons explain the worldwide success of the Hublot watch. Unfortunately, this strong reputation has attracted the attention of counterfeiters.

Here are a few tips to help you distinguish a genuine Hublot watch from an imitation.

Why buy a watch Hublot ?

Hublot is known for shaking up luxury watch standards with panache! Despite its young age, Swiss watchmaker Hublot is one of the most respected names in Haute Horlogerie. It is known for its endless design and innovation. This luxury brand always uses innovative materials and has numerous models with the possibility of added value.

Hublot watch prices start at €1,000 for the classic 1980 model, but can reach over €400,000 for extremely limited models such as the Hublot MP-05 LaFerrari Sapphire. If we had to name one must-have Hublot model, it would be the Hublot Big Bang, presented in 2005 and which has since had numerous variations.

How can you spot a fake Hublot watch?

1/ Look at the quality of the watch

If you take your watch and look at it carefully, you'll be able to spot faults straight away. Whether it's a bad print, a misaligned print or poor assembly... take the time to analyse it as a whole.

2/ Examine the Hublot screws

Let's move on to the details of your watch by looking at the screws with the "H" logo. Indeed, on all Hublot models, the screws have this H shape. All those with round bezels have six on the front face. Look closely at the details of these screws. On some counterfeits, the H is less well formed, and less distinctive. On genuine Hublot watches, however, the "H" screws are perfectly visible and legible.

3/ Analyse the engravings

Engravings on the clasp

Now let's take a look at the engravings on the clasp of your Hublot luxury watch. Look closely at the quality of the "HUBLOT" engraving. It should be deeply engraved and surrounded by two "H" logo screws. Also observe the spacing of the letters.

Engravings on the back of the watch

Also look at the engravings on the back of your watch. Many counterfeiters neglect this detail and leave many defects. Here again, the Hublot counterfeit has letters that are too thin and not sufficiently engraved in the metal. They are also less well defined than on the genuine Hublot watch.

4/ Inspect the counter

On a watch, the guichet is the small window on the dial that indicates the current date. On imitation Hublot watches, the numbers are 90% of the time thicker than on real Hublot watches. They are also often incorrectly positioned in the window, either too high or too low.

5/ Other details

The buttons

As soon as you have your watch in your hands, check that the buttons work properly. On counterfeit watches, these buttons very often do not work. Also check their general appearance and the quality of the materials used...

The serial number

Each Hublot luxury watch has a personalised serial number engraved on the back. It consists of between 6 and 7 digits. It must be perfectly legible.

This serial number corresponds to the number on the original warranty card. Please make sure that this is the case for your watch.
