Advice and tips on buying and selling between private individuals

5 tips to check the authenticity of your Nike Dunk Low

Before there were Boost and Off-White x Nike trainers, the older generation of sneakerheads collected Nike Dunk. Indeed, with their interesting design and materials, Nike Dunk sneakers had their fair share of popularity at the time. Nowadays, they have fallen into the vintage category of trainers, and are much sought-after for that reason. As usual, Chinese factories and other counterfeiters are always looking to get a slice of the profit pie from anything that has a high demand. So, if you've just received your Nike Dunk at home and you notice something a little 'off' about them, which leads you to ask that dreaded question... Are my SB Dunks fake? Or do you want to buy some from a private seller but don't know how to check their authenticity? This article will help you identify the real from the fake and help you spot fake Nike SB Dunk Lows.

1. The Nike Swoosh logo

Nike's iconic swoosh doesn't look so good if it's badly reproduced. Firstly, its shape is an important detail to talk about. The authentic swoosh is much thicker at the bottom and tapers as it rises. The fake swoosh, on the other hand, has virtually no such contrast.

In the fake Nike Dunk image below, you can easily notice how the Nike Swoosh logo on the replica Dunks is too big, as it is too close to the sole of the trainers. On the other hand, the authentic Nike Dunk Low trainers have their Swoosh smaller, so you can see how much less close it is to the midsole. Also, by looking at the top of the Swoosh logo on the fake Nike Dunk Low trainers compared to the real ones, you can notice how the replica Dunks are less curved and crisp than the authentic shoes.

2. The toe area

The holes in the toe area of these models make them very breathable and beautiful at the same time. First of all, these perforations actually have a function on the authentic model, because they are large and you can see that they have also been cut out on the bottom, making it easier for air to come and go.

Whereas on the fake Nike Dunk, the holes are much smaller and they don't seem to have any depth, making them functionless. What's more, the authentic perforations are placed very symmetrically, whereas the replica factories have completely missed this detail.

Indeed, counterfeiters will copy the design of the perforation holes but will not always take sufficient care to rectify them with the shoe. So you can inspect the spacing to see if the holes furthest apart are closer to the edge on the left than on the right, because they shouldn't be.

3. The Nike logo tab

In this method, we want you to take a closer look at the tongue label with the Nike logo. The first thing to mention is the Nike swoosh, which is thicker and longer on the original label.

What's more, the Nike font has also been reproduced by mistake, as it is supposed to be very thick, bold and less slanted than the one shown on the counterfeit.

The "®" trademark signs are also much larger on the authentic model, making them easier to read.

4. The logo sewn onto the heel

The stitching on the heel of the authentic Nike Dunk is completely different to the replica. In fact, the space between each stitch is much larger on the original trainers and is not as fine as in the photo of the fake trainers, as you can see below.

What's more, the original trainers have genuine leather tongues, whereas the replica brand has used a strange bulky material.

5. The size label

In the images below, we've first highlighted how the fake Dunks have their "CU1726-100" text in the top right corner of the size label which looks too thick and square compared to the original label.

Then you can see how the "MADE IN VIETNAM" text in the middle of the size label is too thick on the fake trainers, and how on the genuine shoes it's thinner. What's more, the QR code is also supposed to be bigger on the fake size label.
