Advice and tips on buying and selling between private individuals

How can you spot a fake Louis Vuitton wallet?

First created in 1854, Louis Vuitton wallets have become a benchmark of elegance and refinement. These top-of-the-range products, made from leather and coated canvas, are the perfect combination of luxury and practicality. Customisable and available in a range of sizes, these wallets have captured the hearts of many a traveller. However, the price of a Louis Vuitton wallet can make your head spin, so turning to second-hand platforms can be an interesting option. Nevertheless, you need to be vigilant when buying second-hand, as many counterfeiters are constantly replicating the products of the biggest luxury brands. Louis Vuitton is no exception. That's why, in this article, we give you our tips for recognising a fake Louis Vuitton wallet from the real thing.

The inscription Louis Vuitton :

First of all, pay particular attention to the Louis Vuitton inscription on the inside of the wallet. It says a lot about the wallet's authenticity.

The lettering on a wallet from a Louis Vuitton manufacturing plant is aligned and has letters of a similar size. Counterfeit wallets have branded inscriptions on which the letters are distorted and appear to be slanted.

The external monogram :

Let's now look at the monogram on the outside of the Louis Vuitton wallet. The lines of the monogram are further apart on the original wallet, whereas they are too close together on the counterfeit.

It is also not uncommon to see Louis Vuitton lettering in reverse on wallets from replica factories. If this is the case with the wallet you wish to purchase, you can immediately attest to its non-authenticity.

Inside the wallet :

Also check the inside of the Louis Vuitton wallet very carefully. There is a difference between a real wallet from the luxury brand and a fake from a counterfeit factory.

The interior of the authentic model is more spacious than that of the replica. The card holders on counterfeit wallets are too far apart, unlike authentic wallets on which they are closer together.

It is also not uncommon to find that the number of card holders is not respected. In some replicas, there are three card holders on the same column instead of two.

On the left, a Louis Vuitton wallet, on the right, a replica of this wallet.

Closing :

It is also necessary to analyse the zip of your Louis Vuitton wallet. Each tooth of the zip should be perfectly straight. They are usually crooked on replica wallets.

If the closure is difficult to use, or if it jams, it's a sign that the teeth are misaligned. So it's probably a counterfeit. The fastener should slide on smoothly and without a hitch.
