Val d'Oise: Fake Cartier bracelets sold for 800 euros

A woman was arrested by gendarmes and convicted of fraud for selling counterfeit Cartier bracelets on a classified ads website.

A scam disguised as a bargain

Priced from €3,000 on the luxury brand's official website, Cartier bracelets can be worth up to €50,000 or more. Our victim thought she'd found the bargain of the century! She'd found the perfect ad on a classified ads website: a Cartier bracelet for €820. Without thinking too hard, she immediately showed her interest in the product.

Supported by a certificate of authenticity

The swindler had planned everything to conceal her scam. She had attached a certificate of authenticity for the jewellery to her ad to remove any doubt from anyone interested. It was because of this certificate that our victim took the plunge and sent the required sum to the scammer without too much delay.

Convinced that she had made a good deal, the next day our victim went to the classified ads site once again to compare the ad she had come across with other sellers. To her great surprise, she found the bracelet she had already bought in a new ad that had just been placed. Our victim realised that this was a scam.

It wasn't the first time the saleswoman had done this.

The buyer immediately went to the gendarmerie in Louvres (Val-d'Oise) to lodge a complaint against her swindler.

The Louvres gendarmes traced the saleswoman and discovered that this was not her first time. She had already been ripping off numerous Internet users for several months. During a search of her flat, the police found three Cartier bracelets with their boxes, as well as the last sum scammed.

What was found at the fraudster's home

The police were subsequently able to track down the other victims of the scam. The luxury brand Cartier has filed a complaint for counterfeiting.

The fraudster was given a 4-month suspended prison sentence and ordered to pay compensation for the damage she had suffered by the Pontoise Criminal Court.
