Couple convicted of classified ad scams
On 25 April 2019, a young couple aged 22 and 23 were tried by the Caen Criminal Court. The man was convicted of fraud, and his companion of complicity and handling stolen goods. Total value of the operations: €15,000.
Fake ads for real scams
The young man had a simple technique: he posted ads for smartphones at knock-down prices, such as iPhones and Samsung Galaxy models. Baited buyers paid for the phones by bank transfer or cash money order. Of course, the phones didn't exist and were never delivered to the victims.
A habitual fraudster, already in custody
This was not the young man's first case. In fact, he had already been in custody since March 2018 for similar acts of fraud, and was only taken from his cell for his appearance in this new case.
Other scams for other goods
As well as the phones, he scanned the search ads on sites such as Leboncoin, particularly the ads for car parts. Bonnets, rims, engines... The young man claimed to own these goods, invoices from garages obtained illegally. His girlfriend, for her part, managed the transactions and collected the funds.
Suspended sentence for the two swindlers
He received an 8-month suspended prison sentence. His partner received a 4-month suspended sentence, with probation for the next 24 months. As for the victims, the couple is obliged to reimburse them.
