Leboncoin scam: a couple suspected of reselling stolen goods

On Friday 21 May, a man and a woman were arrested in Besançon. They were suspected of selling items they had allegedly stolen on the Leboncoin classified ads website. In order to track down these criminals, the alarm was raised by a Bonsitine store that had fallen victim to their actions. Since the beginning of the year, the company has been suffering from a number of thefts of multimedia equipment. In total, the damage amounts to 11,000 euros.

Suspects arrested in fake Leboncoin transaction

You can find anything on the classified ads site Leboncoin. Some of the many ads published on the site contain stolen items. This case involves a man and a woman, both of whom were preparing to carry out a fake transaction on the Leboncoin site. They were stopped in a car on Friday 21 May during the transaction by investigators from the property crime unit. At the time of the arrest, the couple were in possession of a laptop computer. They are suspected of having stolen the computer from a multimedia and electrical goods retailer.

A brand falls victim to these crooks, suffering losses of €11,000

The managers of the multimedia and electrical goods shop alerted the Sûreté départementale after realising during inventories carried out at the beginning of the year that a number of thefts had taken place, resulting in a loss of 11,000 euros.

They decided to conduct their own investigation on the classified ads site Leboncoin. They came across an ad for one of their computers. They were able to identify it by its serial number. When the two individuals were arrested, the computer was in their car and was seized.

Other stolen items recovered

When the two suspects were arrested, the computer was not the only stolen item found in the car. They had hidden a number of bottles of alcohol in the boot, with the locks still attached. Their vehicle also contained locks that had been ripped off beforehand. The police then searched the suspects' homes, where they found other stolen items. Investigations are continuing to identify the owners of the stolen items.
