Loir-et-Cher: woman in her sixties sentenced for Leboncoin scams
A few days ago, the Blois Criminal Court handed down a suspended 3-month prison sentence to a woman in her sixties. In 2018, the accused had carried out a series of scams on the famous classified ads website Leboncoin.
A story of revenge
During her interview, the 69-year-old woman admitted all the facts. She said that she herself had been the victim of a scam on Leboncoin. She had done all this out of pure revenge, but also to finance her and her husband's high cigarette consumption of 400 euros a month.
To carry out her scam, this woman in her sixties put a number of items up for sale, including a wind chime and an enamelled plaque, on the classified ads website. As with all Leboncoin ad scams, the woman lured her buyers with tempting offers.
Packages never received
Once they had shown that they were interested in the property for sale, the 69-year-old woman suggested that her buyers pay by bank cheque. The woman in her sixties was to arrange for her parcels to be sent by a carrier. Unsurprisingly, the buyers sent the cheques but never received the parcels.
As a result of this deception, some buyers ended up lodging a complaint. The investigation identified around twenty victims in all.
Three-month suspended prison sentence
During her hearing, the 60-year-old criticised the "naivety" of buyers following her unrealistic offers.
The public prosecutor noted that the 60-year-old had begun to pay back her victims. However, the Blois Criminal Court gave her a suspended sentence of three months. Following the verdict, the 69-year-old also undertook to stop smoking.
