Philips Lumea epilator: How can you spot a counterfeit?

A new trend has been developed to combat hair regrowth: the Philips Lumea epilator. Lumea is a very specific range of pulsed light epilators from the Dutch brand Philips. No more unwanted hair reappearing every day after a shave. Today, Lumea epilators give you better results for smoother, more pleasant skin. The epilator uses a flash of light. The energy from this device acts on the melanin in the skin to slow down the process and the appearance of new hair. Victims of its success, counterfeits have quickly appeared. Nevertheless, it is possible to recognise and anticipate a counterfeit Philips Lumea epilator.

Warning signs

Counterfeiters use less effective materials, which can entail major risks depending on the sensitivity of each individual's skin. Various allergenic chemicals and metals are used in the manufacture of the device, which can cause severe burns, irritation and allergic reactions. Undesirable effects can also occur, such as faster hair regrowth, ingrown hairs or excessive hair stimulation. If you notice any of these, check the authenticity of your product.

The logo

The logo can go by different names, such as Phillips or Philip. It is bound to have a flaw, whether in the font, the contours or the colour of the logo, which may be different or less conspicuous.

As you can see below, the genuine Lumea epilator is branded with the Philips logo on the top of the device horizontally or at the bottom of the handle vertically.

The product name "Lumea" can also be seen at the bottom of the product.

The buttons

Pay particular attention to the interface on which the ignition and power buttons are placed. The support on which these buttons are placed is of very poor quality on the reproduced product.

On a replica of this new technology, the support may be a sticker that peels off easily. On an authentic product, the buttons are solid and the interface on which they are placed is well fixed and attached to the product.

You can also check that on this part of the product, the colour is the same as the interface. There should be 5 buttons to specify the intensity of the machine. If there are fewer buttons, your product may well be a counterfeit.

Product top shape

Check the shape of the top of the product, as this tells you a lot about its authenticity.

The Lumea has an oval shape that enhances the aesthetics of its range. Some replica factories produce products with a more rectangular shape. This is a sign that you are dealing with a counterfeit product.

Suspicious packaging

Packaging is often a source of doubt when you receive a purchased product. Packaging generally remains the guarantee of an authentic product, but exceptions are possible. Many counterfeiters take pleasure in imitating Philips packaging. The quality of the packaging, the graphics and the printing are all identifiable features of an imitation epilator.

The packaging should look like the photo below.

Make sure that everything is included in the packaging with the product, such as the different attachments for body, face, bikini line and underarm treatments. The same goes for the storage kit and adapter, as you can see in the photo below. If these items are not included in the packaging, check the authenticity of your product and contact the seller as soon as possible.
