How can you spot a counterfeit GHD straightener?
Good Hair Day (GHD) was born in the UK and since its launch, the brand has revolutionised the hairdressing market and hair in general. Before the brand came onto the market, people had to go to the hairdresser to get a makeover and have their hair perfectly tamed. The brand also owes its success above all to the performance of its products. The brand has been able to innovate and create by always listening to consumers' needs. GHD has made it easy for anyone who wants to straighten their hair to do so from the comfort of their own home. However, in the face of such success, some clever people have tried to reproduce Good Hair Day products in order to make a profit off the brand. However, there are ways to spot a fake GHD straightener from a real GHD straightener. In this article, we give you some of them.
Packaging:
The first thing to look out for is the product packaging. Pay particular attention to it.
GHD straighteners are packaged and sent in a sturdy box. Look carefully at the shape and size of the logo on the packaging. It should be accompanied by the words "Good Hair Day" placed under the letters H and D and perfectly aligned with them. In addition, the letters of the logo must be in lower case and aligned with each other. The curvature of the letter G must be the same as that of the letter D.
Also check the quality, colour and brightness of the images. Most of the time, the images used on counterfeit boxes are darker because they are badly duplicated.
What's more, to confirm the authenticity of your product, you can scan the QR code that is normally included in the box.
The power cord :
Take a close look at the power cord and, more specifically, its shape. This part is often badly counterfeited by crooks.
As you can see from the image below, the cord of a real GHD straightener is more curved and longer than a counterfeit GHD straightener. You should also see two small holes just below the curve.
Above, an authentic GHD power cord and below, a replica of this cord.
The cord label :
Also check the holographic label attached to the power cord. This tells you a lot about the authenticity of the brand's product.
In the first position on the label, you will see the words 'Original', which are repeated several times in different sizes. In this position you will also see a code. This code can be entered on the GHD website to confirm its authenticity.
On the second position of the label, you should see the GHD logo with a "Sunburst" effect, i.e. a sunburst graphic.

The shape of the straightener :
Pay particular attention to the shape of your GHD straightener. The end of the straightener should be round when you close it. This shape has been designed to produce beautiful curls if you use the straightener for this type of hairstyle.
Counterfeit straighteners are less rounded. If when you close the straightener and look at the end it's square, you're probably looking at a replica product.
On the left, a fake straightener, on the right, a real GHD straightener.
What's more, the plates must be able to swivel to follow the movement of the hair. Counterfeiters often don't bother to reproduce this detail. The plates jam and the movement is not smooth.
Ignition time :
As well as its ease of use and perfect results, the brand is also renowned for the speed with which its products heat up, which is simply unbeatable.
Good Hair Day straighteners have a very fast heating system. After ten seconds or so, the straightener makes a noise to let you know it's hot, and the temperature is not set manually but automatically according to the hair.
These features are difficult to counterfeit, so if you don't hear any noise, or your straightener takes a long time (more than a minute) to heat up, you're probably dealing with a counterfeit.
